“Know as D-Pocket jackets due to their unusual asymmetrical chest pocket design, jackets like this were the forerunners of the iconic ‘Perfecto’ design made famous by Marlon Brando in ‘The Wild One’. In turn it is the ancestor of all subsequent double breasted biker jackets from the 1960s up to the present day.
This jacket however is much earlier and rarer. The design and far cleaner and more streamlined. Original D-pocket jackets are now very rare and sort after by collectors.
Made by Kurland Sportswear MFG in Lynn, Massachusetts, USA. this jacket boasts ‘Glove Tanned’ stearhide leather and a chunky brass Scovil ‘paperclip’ Zipper (often found on flight jackets of the era) and a lovely quilted lining, This would probably originally have had an integral belt which has been removed but is in otherwise very good condition for its age.”
